‘An eco-hotel which mirrors the island’s most fundamental elements – air, water and light – to create a serene retreat in Ibiza’s south east. Expect exemplary staff, a stellar spa and a popular rooftop bar and restaurant’ (The Telegraph).
Aguas de Ibiza Grand Luxe Hotel is located within the quiet town of Santa Eulalia on the south eastern part of the island. It takes about half an hour to get to Ibiza Town and Dalt Vila, the airport and the popular nightclubs. It’s a great spot for discovering the beaches of the north east corner of the island.
Renowned Spanish interior designers Jordi Cuenca and Kim Castells cut a great balance between peacefulness and fun. It’s cool and calm when you step inside. The 1970s style of the lobby – all chunky marble wall dividers, crushed velvet sofas and potted palms – feels very du jour, heightened by the covetable staff uniforms: ladies in white embroidered garments (available to buy from the on-site shop); men in kimono-style white cotton suits. The other public spaces introduce more colour, from the multi-coloured raffia day beds by the pool, to the turquoise string chairs, hanging plants and pendent lights up on the rooftop. Sustainable features include solar-powered lighting, solar energy detectors and water saving and recycling systems.
Par excellence. As soon as we checked in we felt at home by the exemplary reception staff who welcomed us with genuine smiles and helpful information. The staff are similarly friendly in the restaurants.
There are two large pools in the garden, plus an adults-only one up on the roof. The 1,800 square-metre Revival Spa, in the basement, feels like a sybaritic spaceship, with day beds and hot and cold experiences, including a steam room, sauna and pools of differing temperatures. Treatments are by Clarins.
The 112 rooms are light-filled, if a little dated, with a combination of colour schemes depending on level: aqua blue and grey in some; burnt orange and chocolate brown in others. Note that many of the natural stone bathrooms are separated by glass walls (with privacy blinds). All rooms have been arranged by the principles of Feng Shui, and feature mod-cons such as Bang & Olufsen TVs, baths, coffee machines and balconies. Suites are bigger, with lounge areas, bigger terraces and better views towards the sea.
The colourful Alabastro Lounge, by the pool, is an all-day chilled-out restaurant under a terrace with a classically Mediterranean menu, such as homemade gnocci with sobresada, fresh grouper or Iberican ham. Head to Vi Cool, up on the roof, for dinner. The menu offers a contemporary take on classic tapas by two Michelin-starred chef Sergi Arola – the likes of an inventive plate of patatas bravas, artfullt presented tuna or steak tartare, ceviche and a moreish fried baby squid sandwich.
A seemingly bottomless breakfast spread is served at Öligo, with the likes of pan con tomate (tomato bread), cakes, cheese, ham, fruits, yogurt and smoothies.
